Values
We Value
People
People are important. Not Programs.
It’s about how we live with and love each other. Onelife is a group of people who understand that the church is not a building, or where we meet or the programs that are offered. Sure we’ll have engaging services, phenomenal music, and relevant teaching. But being relevant is being in community with one another, loving each other, and meeting needs.
Jesus said it best. All men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35
Being Real
None of us have it all together. And none of us are perfect. We’re here to share our imperfections and our failures as well as our joys and triumphs. Honesty is essential. We’re all in this together. We’ve got to be able to be open.
Jesus’ Last Words
We take this seriously. We have a mission, THE Commission. And we’re here to share our lives with others so that they may know and have a life-giving relationship with this Jesus we love and follow.
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Matthew 28.19-20, Acts 1.8
This means we live as Jesus lived.
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and :sinners: came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9.10-13
Generosity
We believe that we are rich. We have time, gifts, talents, and financial resources that God has given us. God has given us all that we need and even more. It is our responsibility to share our talents, use our gifts, invest our time in others, and be generous with our money. God is gracious, and we are to reflect his heart with our lives.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11.25
Leadership
Everything rises and falls on leadership. Jesus led a small group of followers who became empowered to lead a movement. We believe that anyone can be a leader and that God has given talents to all and gifts to his followers. We will continue to grow, invest, and develop individuals to become all that God has made them to be.
Gifts
So in Christ, we who are many form one body, and we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. Romans 12 5-6
The Body
We are here to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4.12-13
We are all ministers. Every person will know their spiritual gifts, their strengths, and we will complete each other and be the body of Christ.
Justice
This world is beautiful, yet broken. All throughout the scriptures God’s people are called to cared for the less fortunate, for those in need, for those who are suffering from injustice, orphans and widows. We cannot and will not neglect those in need. We are here to learn about and expose the darkest places and give hope to those who need it.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being pollute by the world. James 1.27
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. Proverbs 31.8-9
If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your night will become like the noonday. Isaiah 58,9-10
Simplicity
We live in a very fast and complex world. Too many times we forget that this place is not our home, and we are called to live as strangers here. Priorities are important. Our relationship with Christ is first and foremost. Some of us are husbands and wives. Others are fathers and mothers. There are certain roles and relationships that God has given us to fulfill. God and family must be a priority. Church, programs, and ministry are secondary.
Jesus said to “Love God and Love People”.
That’s why we’re here.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12.30-31
Like a bird that strays from his nest is a man who strays from his home. Proverbs 27.8
